Janora McDuffie returns to Grey’s Anatomy this season as Janet, the social worker we met last season when she signed off on Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) adopting Zola. McDuffie appeared in the season premiere Thursday and will return again in October, according to TV Line.
McDuffie was picked as one of Advocate's 40 Under 40, a list of entrepreneurs, activists, politicians, artists, and athletes who are much more than ahead of the curve, they're out, proud, and changing the world. McDuffie is bisexual, but knows that is anything but an asset in Hollywood.
"I talk a lot of shit about people not out in the industry and what powerful strides they could make if they just said, ‘Hey, this is who I am,’ ” McDuffie told Advocate. “I decided there’s no way I could point my finger at them and then have the opportunity to make a difference — and not take it.”
So, she took a job hosting No More Down Low, the award winning web series highlighting positive stories of gay black Americans. The show launched last October, and McDuffie pitched ideas about subjects like gay parenting and chronicling her training for the seven-day AIDS/LifeCycle bike ride last June.
“It’s such a worthwhile experience working on something greater than myself,” McDuffie said about the AIDS/LifeCycle. “Magic happens when you stick to your guns and live with integrity and character — even in Hollywood.”
