Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore Considered for Mom in Kimberly Peirce's 'Carrie'

Out director Kimberly Peirce is remaking the creepy 70s teen bullying revenge horror Carrie, and there’s quite a short list of actresses in talks to fill the legendary mother/daughter team of Carrie and Margaret, according toVulture. 

Rumor has it that two Hollywood heavyweights are being considered for the role of Margaret, the psychotically unhinged mother of Carrie, the small town teen with telekinetic powers.  Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore are among the actresses being pursued at this time. Margaret was originally played to perfection by Piper Laurie. 

And as for Carrie, originally played by Sissy Spacek; there are two actresses being seriously considered for the part and they are said to include Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) and Haley Bennett (The Haunting of Molly Hartley).  

The original Carrie, adapted from the Stephen King book of the same title was helmed by director Brian DePalma, and opened in 1976 to limited release (only 409 nationwide).  Once word spread, the limited budget horror/thriller was rolled out to more theaters and eventually went on to a domestic gross of $33 million.  The horror classic received critical acclaim and Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie both received Oscar noms for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.

Peirce, made a name for herself after directing the haunting 1999 drama Boys Don’t Cry.  The indie film garnered wide critical acclaim, as well as numerous industry awards including a Best Actress Oscar for Hillary Swank, for her portrayal of transgender teen, Brandon Teena.  Most recently, Peirce directed an episode of The L-Word and the 2008 feature Stop-Loss.
