Chely Wright Discusses Coming Out, Rejection by Nashville on CBS This Morning - Watch

Country music star Chely Wright’s documentary Wish Me Away, about her poignant coming out, hits theaters in New York on June 1 as well as on VOD, and now the thoughtful, outspoken LGBT rights advocate is making the press rounds. Wright, the first country music star to come out publicly as a lesbian, discussed the silent rejection she’s received from Nashville since coming out but also turned the conversation to positive work she’s done in the community with organizations like GLSEN.

Country music star Chely Wright’s documentary Wish Me Away, about her poignant coming out, hits theaters in New York on June 1, as well as on VOD, and now the thoughtful, outspoken LGBT rights advocate is making the press rounds. Wednesday she visited CBS This Morning for an interview during which cohost Gayle King said, “Your documentary took my heart an ripped it out a couple of times.”

Wright, the first country music star to come out publicly as a lesbian, discussed the silent rejection she’s received from Nashville since coming out but also turned the conversation to positive work she’s done in the community with organizations like GLSEN.

Early on in the interview Wright described herself as, “a gay girl with aspirations of being on the Grand Ole Opry.”
