'Grey's Anatomy' 9th Season Premiere - Callie and Arizona SPOILERS?

The long dry summer is over and Grey’s Anatomy’s beloved lady couple Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) are back tonight – or are they? TV Line’s Michael Ausiello has some not so helpful hints as to what may be in store for the pair. But for Calzona fans chomping at the bit for news of the couple, Ausiello at least offers some thing to think about.

When we last we saw the wedded couple, Callie was safe and saving lives at Seattle Grace while Arizona was among those Seattle Grace staffers valiantly attempting to survive a plane crash. Sadly, Lexie (Chyler Leigh), promptly died following the crash leaving her beloved Mark (Eric Dane) -- who also happens to be Callie and Arizona’s baby daddy – heartbroken. The crash also left both Arizona and Mark with horrific, life-threatening injuries.

While Dane has already announced he’ll be exiting Grey’s this season, there’s no word as to whether he’s another casualty of the crash or if he’ll survive and make an exit later in the season. But there’s absolutely no word on Arizona’s fate, and Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes has forbidden anyone from discussing her it.

Under strict orders to not reveal Calzona’s future Ramirez instead discussed their cultural impact. "Jessica [Capshaw] and I talk about this a lot, and we're both really grateful that people are invested," the actress told Ausiello and TV Line. "I know I am. And we hope that they will continue on this journey with us, because it's definitely going to be an intense one."

As for what Ausiello could reveal, Callie will be spending a great deal of her energy this season working on fixing Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) hand as the great neurosurgeon’s hand was severely injured in the crash.

"I think that she absolutely puts pressure on herself [to repair Derek's hand]," Ramirez told TV Line. "That's kind of who she is. I think that she probably has some fear around what all the possibilities are. And how involved to get. And that ultimately comes back to her own belief in herself, or lack thereof.”
