Out and proud actress and co-host of The Talk, Sara Gilbert, delivered and inspiring message to LGBT teens on the show as a part of today’s Spirit Day, where people are encouraged to “go purple” to take a stand against bullying.

Gilbert’s The Talk co-hosts joined her in wearing purple but the actress, a child star on Roseanne who later came out in the public eye, discussed how things are changing regarding awareness. She began by thanking The Talk’s network CBS for supporting Spirit Day and said, “When I was growing up there was nothing like this, there was no awareness. People didn’t know it was okay, didn’t feel okay about themselves.”
