Naya Rivera on the Future of 'Glee's' Favorite Lesbian Cheerleader

Glee’s fourth season has seen far too little of the fiercest lesbian Cheerio to ever stroll McKinley High’s hallowed halls, and the first time we really saw Santana this season, she was dumping her beloved Brittany to the collective heartache of viewers across the country. Now, Naya Rivera, the ultra-talented actress and vocalist who plays Santana, tells The Hollywood Reporter that “Santana is at a crossroads” following her break with Brittany (Heather Morris).

Santana will venture back to McKinley for the school’s performance of Grease in an upcoming episode but Rivera tells THR that Santana is in “limbo,” adding that she hopes her character, who’s at college in Louisville, will eventually join Rachel (Lea Michele) and Kurt (Chris Colfer) in the Big Apple.

The actress and LGBT ally says that Santana’s homecoming from Grease will be a sweet one but she also alludes to possible romantic tension between Brittany and Sam (Chord Overstreet) that could cause Santana to lose it, even if Santana was the one who did the breaking up with Brittany.

"I don't think she would be too happy about that, I would hope to God that everyone hid as she would start swinging," Rivera says of the possibility of Brittany hooking up with Sam.

Regarding Santana’s love life post-coming out Rivera tells THR that she hopes that evolving story will continue to get attention. "That's an important part of her story that needs to be explored," Rivera says.

On the subject of the future of Brittana Rivera says she hopes they will continue to be an important part of each other’s lives.

"First love is always hard, that's why t hat speech was so beautiful. But long-term? My fingers are crossed for them,” Rivera says.
