The nominations for the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Nominations came out this morning and there are at least six great reasons we are super excited to watch the Globes.  These reasons are in addition to the what we already knew -- that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler would be killing it as hosts for the third consecutive year. 

Before we get to the good stuff we have one big bone to pick with the Hollywood Foreign Press (the association that picks the Globes) – WHERE is Tatiana Maslany in this list of nominations? Her omission is an oversight we’re sure, and there may be time to slip her name in before anyone notices. (insert side-eye here).

Still, some wonderful women and LGBT projects earned nominations. Here are 6 reasons we can’t wait for the Globes! 

6. The Crazy Eyes may have it! Uzo Aduba was nominated for a Sag Award yesterday and now she can add a Golden Globe nomination to the list for Best Supporting Actress in a series, mini-series, or TV Movie.

5. The queerest category of all is Best TV series, Musical or Comedy (of course) with Orange Is The New Black, Transparent (which also features lesbian and bisexual characters) and Jane The Virgin will compete for the win. 

4. The amazing Taylor Schilling, who plays our favorite bisexual inmate Piper Chapman on Orange Is the New Black, earned a nod for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy.

3. Our favorite Veteran show –and one of the most LGBT all-around shows on TV --The Good Wife was nominated for Best TV Series, Drama with the show's lead actress, Julianna Margulies once again nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama. Alicia Florrick FTW! 

Julianne Moore in Still Alice 

2. Julianne Moore, who has played queer no fewer than five times in our estimation, has been nominated for Best Actress in two contrasting categories (Motion Picture, Drama and Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy) for Still Alice and Maps to the Stars, respectively. In Still Alice Moore plays a cognitive psychologist who struggles to manage various aspects of her life after being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. Moore won Best Actress at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival for her role in Maps to the Stars in which she plays a former movie star living under her mother's (also an actress) shadow. We love Reese Witherspoon in Wild but we're hoping this is finally Moore's road to Oscar gold. 

1. The highlight among the roster has to be Ava Duvernay's nomination for Best Director for a motion Picture for her look into the civil rights movement in Selma, which could not be more timely considering recent events in Ferguson and New York City.  Duvernay first landed on the collective radar at Sundance in 2013 with her film Middle of Nowhere, where she was awarded Best Director for that film, making her the first black woman win the prize. She made history once again with her Golden Globe nomination as she is the first black woman to ever be nominated in the Best Director category.
