Because marriage has really just begun...

Out director Coley Sohn recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to support her feature film project, Dodie & Cheryl Get Hitched. The film centers on couple Dodie Pickerling, a bowling alley manager, and Cheryl Shook, a second grade teacher, and their attempt to get married amid a small-town mentality. Same-sex marriage may be legal in all 50 states, but attitudes still need to change, so the timing is perfect!

"Dodie and Cheryl Get Hitched is my ode to all the ugly heads that are rearing and also the ones that are buried in the sand. This ain’t no schmaltzy feel good Katherine Heigl rom com. Not that there's anything wrong with those..." Sohn writes in her campaign statement. "It’s a funny, sometimes dark and disturbing look at an institution that gay or straight, is pretty f-ed up to begin with."

The wonderful Drew Droege has signed on to play Lawrence, Dodie's loyal employee at the bowling alley. Drew, as Lawrence, is here to tell you all about the project.

Sohn, a native of Washington DC, got into film directing after she applied to AFI's Directing Workshop for Women, according to her interview with Indiewire. She previously directed the 2012 comedy film, Sassy Pants, based on her short film, Boutonniere. Sassy Pants follows a teenager (Ashley Rickards) as she moves from her overbearing mother (Anna Gunn) to her gay father (Diedrich Bader) and his younger boyfriend (Haley Joel Osment).
