Right now, some of us might be feeling pretty torn over who to vote for in the upcoming election. It's a great time to educate yourself, find a candidate you feel passionate about, and passionately try to talk your friends out of opinions you don't agree with. But as we start really focusing on the 2016 election, it's important to remember the history of why we're allowed to vote in the first place. Luckily, Suffragette comes out next month to remind us just how difficult, dangerous, and emotional this fight was. In the film, Carey Mulligan stars as Maud Watts, a young mother and housewife who joins the escalating fight for voting rights in Britain alongside Helena Bonham Carter as Edith Ellyn and Meryl Streep as Suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst. In this clip, a detained Maud refuses to break when interrogated about an attack the Suffragettes staged. From what we've seen (and you should definitely also check out the full trailer here) Suffragette looks like it really could be one of the most gripping films of the year, and this clip alone proves that Carey Mulligan might be giving us her best performance yet. Check it out right here and catch Suffragette in theaters on October 23rd.
