Kate McKinnon to Co-Host This Year's Film Independent Spirit Awards

The host of our dreams, Kate McKinnon, will be taking to IFC this February to host the Independent Spirit Swards alongside comedian Kumail Nanjiani. You know and love Kate from Saturday Night Live and the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, and Kumail is currently most well-known for co-starring on HBO's acclaimed series Silicon Valley. According to The Wrap, Film Independent President Josh Welsh knows just how lucky the awards are to have these two. "“We are ridiculously excited to have Kate McKinnon and Kumail Nanjiani hosting the Spirit Awards this year,” he stated, “They are two of the smartest, funniest human beings on the planet and I can’t wait to see what creative mayhem they bring to the show in February.”

The Independent Spirit Awards recognize excellence in specifically independent filmmaking and includes categories for first-time filmmaking as well. This year particularly rocks because it features a heavy focus on our favorite film of the year Carol, which is nominated in multiple categories including Best Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Female Lead (both Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara), and more.
