WATCH: OITNB Star Laverne Cox Lights the Empire State Building Purple for #SpiritDay
It’s a universal truth that Laverne Cox is pretty much flawless (for a multitude of reasons), so it’s no surprise that the Emmy-nominatedOrange Is the New Black star was chosen to light the Empire State Building purple for Spirit Day for the first year that the structure would represent the campaign to stop bullying.
Accompanied by the cast members of her documentary, Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word, which premieres on MTV/Logo on Oct. 17, Laverne was as gracious as ever.
“The issue of bullying is so deeply personal to me because I spent much of my youth being bullied, being called names, being chased home from school practically every day by groups of kids who wanted to beat me up. And far too many LGBTQ youth are enduring the same thing across this country, and it is unacceptable.”
