I am coining a new word: lip-smacktivism. It is where you kiss bae as a form of protest, and two Australian women have executed it beautifully. Last week, Forrest MHR (member of the house of representatives) Nola Marino stated that Australians are not ready to accept same-sex marriage, herself included. To prove her wrong, two women kissed beautifully and passionately in front of her office and posted it on social media. The image has since gone viral.

Since August 2004, the constitution of Australia has sported an amendment that says "Marriage means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others... A union solemnised in a foreign country between: (a) a man and another man; or (b) a woman and another woman; must not be recognised as a marriage in Australia." However much like public opinion in the United States, polls indicate that support for same-sex marriage in Australia has gone from 38% to 68% in the past 8 years. 

The woman who seized the moment to post the photo is Kiandra Sproule, a friend of the couple in the photo. The photo's insta-success earned Sproule a guest spot on the Ryan and Rosie Breakfast Show on Hot FM. When asked what she would say to Marino if she got the chance, Sproule replied, "I’d ask her to reconsider her opinion and get out on the street and talk to the people she represents instead of speaking to people as a whole. Hopefully this (Facebook photo) will make a difference."
