Rapper TI Calls Gays Un-American Over Tracy Morgan Controversy

"They're like, 'If you have an opinion against us, we're gonna shut you down'... That's not American. If you're gay you should have the right to be gay in peace, and if you're against it you should have the right to be against it in peace."

In a new interview, rapper TI suggests the gay community is threatening American’s constitutional right to freedom of speech.

The issue TI took offense to was the LGBT backlash after Tracy Morgan’s violent, anti-gay tirade onstage during a stand up appearance last summer. Morgan upset many in the audience and received wide criticism from GLAAD and other media groups, for suggesting he would kill his own son if he were gay, among other incendiary homophobic ‘jokes’.

Morgan laterapologized publicly and met with LGBT youth to educate himself and the public about the power of homophobic speech.

TI, the artist behind hits “Live Your Life” and “Whatever You Like” said while he supports gay rights, he was disappointed by the ‘un-American’ reaction of the public to 30 Rockstar Morgan’s controversial comments.

In a new interview with Vibe magazine for their 2011 year end issue, TI is quoted retorting:

"Man, I will say this, the funniest joke I ever heard Tracy say during a stand-up was, 'C'mon man, I think gay people are too sensitive. If you can take a d**k, you can take a joke'. That s**t was funny to me. And it's kind of true.

"They're like, 'If you have an opinion against us, we're gonna shut you down'... That's not American. If you're gay you should have the right to be gay in peace, and if you're against it you should have the right to be against it in peace."

No comment from GLAAD yet on TI’s divisive accusation.

Rosie O'Donnell recently welcomed Morgan on her OWN talk show and forgave the comedian for his homophobic tirade.
