Watch: Almost Gleeful Rachel Maddow Breaks Down Election Results with Stephen Colbert

Out MSNBC host Rachel Maddow appeared nearly jubilant in an appearance on Stephen Colbert's The Colbert Report on Thursday to discuss Tuesday's election results. Colbert and Maddow laughed together about the conservative delusion that allowed Republicans to believe Mitt Romney had a chance at defeating Barack Obama.

Of course, both the electoral college and the popular vote begged to differ.

"The Right talked themselves into the idea that it was going to be a Romney landslide," Maddow said, explaining to Stephen why she and MSNBC co-hosts Chris Matthews weren't "doing an endzone dance" when the network called Ohio for Obama. "Karl Rove was saying, yes I see the polls, but I also see the enthusiastic crowds, and based on the enthusiastic crowds, I'm sure that Romney is going to win. Turned out to be a bad way to predict the election.

Colbert hypothesized that Romney still has a path to getting the needed 270 electoral college votes. "He just needs to get Switzerland, the Cayman Islands, and the secret state only Republicans can see, Whitesylvania," said Colbert, making Maddow giggle.

Colbert also complimented Maddow's news program, saying she deconstructs the news and "put[s] the day's news like parts on a lawn, like of a car… But then, you reconstruct those pieces into a conservative dream-killing machine," Colbert said.

Maddow said she didn't want to kill anyone's dreams, but pointed out "this is one of those days when the facts have a liberal bias. And if you describe what happened in this week's election, liberals are going to be happy by a factual description of what happened.”
