US Olympic beach volleyball staple and no. 1 seed, Kerri Walsh-Jennings and Misty May-Treanor, lost their first set ever in three Olympic competitions yesterday, in a match that started off rocky, but ended in a win for the duo, according to the AP

Kerri and Misty fell 21-17 to Austrian sisters Stefanie and Doris Schwaiger, but quickly rallied to take the second (21-8) and third sets (15-10) to score both a match and pool win.

With the victory, they advance into the knockout round as no. 1 seed, but won’t know who their opponents will be until after the matches on Thursday evening.

"I was furious," Walsh Jennings said afterward. "It's still with me. I want to go to the practice court and fix it."

"Now it's a whole new tournament," May-Treanor said.

The pair won back-to-back gold medals after coasting into Athens and Beijing, and winning seven straight matches without ever losing a single set.

Their resume also boasts a career win streak of 112 matches in a row, which finally came to an end in 2008 with an upset victory by fellow Beijing Olympians Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs at the AVP Shootout in Ohio.
