Roberts is moved by stories of how her coming out has impacted others.

Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts’ coming out on Facebook last December was an inspiration to many, but even she was not prepared for what it would mean to people, she explained as she became a bit emotional in an interview on CNN this weekend.

Roberts choked up as she relayed a story that her friend and colleague Gayle King had told her. “A young man whose mother was having a tough time (with his coming out) said, ‘If it’s okay for Robin, it’s okay for my son.’” Roberts said that she never considered that her coming out could help other LGBT people reach their family members.
