Stop Pitting Angelina Jolie Against Jennifer Aniston

These tweets prove how stupid and sexist the battle between Team Jolie and Team Aniston really is.

It came as a huge shock to the Twittersphere when news broke out earlier this morning that longtime activist and Oscar-winning, bisexual actress Angelina Jolie was divorcing her long time partner Brad Pitt. Although there were plenty of people mourning the end of one of Hollywood's most high-profile—and seemingly happy—relationships, there were also a large amount of people who (predictably and without fail) brought up Jennifer Aniston's name into the mix, another well-known actress who always, always, always seems to be linked to conversations about Brangelina.

While tweets like these seem innocuous (and even funny) at first, they highlight the serious problem society and media have with always pitting two women against each other, and leaving little to no responsibility to the men involved in a cheating scandal.

Though Brad should really be the one held accountable for the reported cheating that resulted in the end of his marriage with Jennifer back in 2005 (he made the vows, not Angelina), the focus—and blame—always seems to be on her, the "other woman." While yes, there is a valid argument to be made regarding Angelina's culpability, the media tale of a woman scorned vs. the other woman is a tired, old, and downright sexist narrative that always rears its ugly head, and it seriously needs to stop.

But it's already happening again. Tabloids are banking on rumors that Brad and Angelina's divorce is a result of him cheating on her with French actress Marion Cotillard, and it will probably only be a matter of time before headlines mention the women somehow being in competition with each other over, what else, the love of a man.

Do you have any thoughts on the sexism surrounding the Brangelina divorce? Let us know in the comments and on Twitter.
