Yale Whiffenpoofs to Honor Cynthia Nixon with Special Concert

The country’s oldest a capella group, The Yale Whiffenpoofs, are honoring out actress and activist Cynthia Nixon with a special concert Friday Feb. 8, from 8:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. at Woolsey Hall, Yale University. Nixon will also be presented with the inaugural Artists for Equality Award, according to release.

The Whiffenpoofs, founded in 1909, are arguably the best known a capella group in the country having performed at The White House, Lincoln Center and on Saturday Night Live, to name a few.

Emmy and Tony winning Sex and the City star Nixon will be honored at the concert, an event that’s part of the Yale GALA, the university’s second LGBT reunion, and IvyQ, an undergraduate conference of Ivy League LGBT leaders. 

Yale’s GALA reunion will also feature speakers including Professor George Chauncey - author of Gay New York: Gender, Urban Culture, and the Making of the Gay Male World, Susan Sommer from Lambda Legal, and Evan Wolfson, Executive Director of Freedom to Marry. 

The IvyQ conference will host LGBT students from Ivy League schools from around the country and will feature lectures and seminars on diverse queer topics.

Nixon, a marriage equality activist, wed Christine Marinoni in New York in May of last year. They have a baby together and Nixon has two children from a previous relationship.

WHAT– The concert will take place during IvyQ (www.ivyq.org), an undergraduate conference of LGBT student leaders from across the Ivy League, and Yale’s Second LGBT Reunion. Proceeds from the event will benefit an LGBT charity of Ms. Nixon’s choice.
