Appropriate Behavior takes place in the hipster scene of Brooklyn, NYC and looks into the of life Shirin: a bi-sexual, Iranian-American who hasn't come out to her traditional Persian family.

Out actress, writer, and director, Desiree Akhavan's film Appropriate Behavior takes place in the hipster scene of Brooklyn, NYC and looks into the of life Shirin (Akhavan): a bisexual, Iranian-American who hasn't come out to her traditional Persian family. The film also follows a love story between Shirin and Maxine (Rebecca Henderson), who challenges Shirin on staying closeted. While Shirin struggles to find acceptance from every corner, her social anxiety, quirky nature, and dry disposition don't seem to help her at all, but as a viewer it's hard to not find Shirin adorable. With comedic timing reminiscent of Lena Dunham's (Akhavan will appear in the third season of Dunham's show, Girls), this film should definitely be on your radar. Watch the trailer now and check the film out when it opens January 16, 2015.
