Pop sensation and actor Troye Sivan is no stranger to his LGBT fans, having built a successful YouTube following in his teens. But openly gay 21-year-old just got some of the best exposure he could hope for – an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’s show.
The singer, who’s promoting his album Blue Neighbourhood sang “Heaven” on Ellen’s show on Tuesday, and it’s safe to say viewers across the country will be Googling him for more.
Born in South Africa, Troye grew up in Australia. At 12 he began making YouTube videos, came out to his folks as gay at 15, and to his YouTube following three years later, according to his cover interview with Out earlier this year.
As Troye sang his wistful song "Heaven," images of LGBT activism flashed on a video screen in the background. That’s pretty great exposure for LGBT issues on your average Tuesday.
