'Peaceful, Racist' Straight Pride Group Insists the Rally Is Still On

Whatever, dude.

Failed politician Don Grundmann made waves last week when he “accidentally” let it slip in a Modesto city council meeting that his National Straight Pride Coalition is a “totally peaceful, racist group.”

The meeting was over whether or not the group could hav a permit to host a straight pride rally in the city, something many critics knocked as homophobic, racist, and ultimately likely to incite violence. The organizers were clear from day one that in addition to “celebrating” heterosexuality, they were also in it to “celebrate” being Caucasian — two groups they insist are under attack in modern society.

The permit they requested to rally in Graceada Park on August 24 was ultimately denied due to the group’s inability to come up with valid liability insurance.

But Grundmann insists that isn’t going to stop them.

“There’s many, many new plans. Five at least, maybe 10,” Grundmann said in a bizarre, vague comment that sounds like something lifted out of a Trump speech.

A spokesperson for the city, Thomas Reeves, said the group has consistently failed to meet the basic requirements to get a permit for the type of event they want to have. However, he acknowledges that they still have a right to gather, it will just be a limited event.

The possibility of violence is such a concern for this event that the city of Modesto has approved an emergency ordinance banning various other items that could be used as weapons, along with face masks or anything used to conceal a person’s identity, at rallies and protests.

“Our community is made up of every color of the rainbow and every marginalized community is in fear of [the National Straight Pride Coalition] bringing violence,” said Modesto resident Chris Holland, who has been against the event happening.

But Grundmann maintains that “the violence is all an issue because the city council lady smeared” the group by voicing her concern that people who are vocally against homosexuality and feel the need to “celebrate” whiteness might cause trouble for marginalized groups.

Go figure.
