GLAAD announced that Daytime Emmy award-winning talk show host from "The View" Joy Behar will receive the Excellence in Media Award at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Along with Drew Barrymore and Wanda Sykes. Past recipients: Julianne Moore, Diane Sawyer, Glenn Close, Tyra Banks. Guests: Isis King (America's Next Top Model); and Jill Zarin ("The Real Housewives of New York City"). "Precious" star Gabourey Sibide will open the show.
Award winning actress Cherry Jones (The Heiress, Doubt, 24) received the Point Courage Award September 26 from the Point Foundation, a scholarship-granting organization for LGBT students of merit. It’s been a good week for the out actress … she also won an Emmy Award last weekend for her portrayal of President Allison Taylor in the Fox series 24.

MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow will receive an award from the Interfaith Alliance named for the late broadcaster Walter Cronkite. The award honors her coverage of religion and politics. Maddow will be presented with the 2010 Walter Cronkite Faith & Freedom Award at a gala dinner in New York. Also receiving the award with Maddow on October 24 will be the Rev. Dr. Joan Brown Campbell, director of the department of religion at the Chautauqua Institution.
