Film festival favorite Hit So Hard: The Life and Near Death of Patty Schemel, a documentary about out Hole drummer Patty Schemel’s life and struggle with addiction, lands in theaters April 13th. The film, directed by gay director P. David Ebersole, transports viewers back 20 years to the hey-day of grunge with its use of archival video of Schemel, Hole front woman Courtney Love and the Love’s husband, the darling of grunge, Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain.
It's film festival season and Los Angeles' premiere LGBT film extravaganza Outfest kicks off July 7 and runs through July 17 right here in SheWired's back yard. Over the next week or so we'll be posting reviews of Outfest films, so even if you aren't in the LA area, perhaps you can check out the flicks when they hit a film fest near you! First up is the documentary Hit So Hard, about Hole drummer Patty Schemel, and The Wise Kids, a coming of age story set against the backdrop of a conservative Christian church.
Hit So Hard, the documentary film about Hole drummer Patty Schemel, will premiere at Outfest, with live performances from all-star rockers following the screening. In addition to Schemel, performers will include Linda Perry, Ann Magnuson, Mary Woronov, Sia, Eric Erlandson (Hole), Nina Gordon (Veruca Salt), Kate Schellenbach (Luscious Jackson), Roddy Bottum (Faith No More), Clint Walsh (Gnarls Barkley), Jorgee Douglas (Citizens Band, Stone Fox), Stacy Sher, Kerry Brown (Smashing Pumpkins), Jeff and Steve McDonald (Redd Cross), Anna Waronker (That Dog), Nicole Fiorentino (Bass Smashing Pumpkins), Lance Robertson (Yo Gabba Gabba) and more.
