Emma Stone hosted Saturday Night Live for the fourth time, and, as usual, managed to do a great job with the material she was given.

One of the standouts was a digital short called “The Actress,” in which Emma plays an actress desperately trying to get in touch with the character she’s supposed to be portraying…in a gay porno.

“I’m the lead actress. I play the woman who gets cheated on in the gay porn,” she says, as she introduces herself to the director. “I wanted to ask you about my line.”

And thus begins the journey of self-discovery — or rather, of the discovery of someone else’s self.

“The director’s method was to offer little guidance regarding the character. All I had were clues, pieces of the puzzle of this woman’s life,” she continues in voice over, pulling a single Ugg boot out of the set clothes bin marked “WOMAN.”

Eventually, once she explores the depths of this woman, betrayed by her husband and her godson at the same time, she has to learn how to leave her behind.

It’s a hilarious parody of the acting method, handled more than capably by Stone, and is definitely one of the skits this season that’s the most worth watching.
