First Trailer for 'AHS: 1984' Is a Nostalgic Campy Blood Bath

The first real trailer for American Horror Story: 1984 is here and it could very well be the ode to '80s slashers we literally always want.

The trailer opens up with a summer camp experience familiar to many gays—a same-sex romp in the cabin while all your bunkmates pretend to be asleep. But in typical AHS fashion, it quickly devolves into an overwhelming blood bath, setting the stage for the story we’ll follow over the course of the season.

An iconic massacre. An escaped mental patient. A bunch of young adults headed to summer camp for the time of their lives.

It’s going to be bloody beautiful.

1984 sees the return of a number of American Horror Story faves, with Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, and last season’s spawn of Satan himself, Cody Fern stepping into the roles of the unsuspecting kids who might just be driving down a dirt road to their dooms. Leslie Grossman, Pose’s Angelica Ross, and Matthew Morrison are also starring this season.

Notably missing from this year’s cast are Evan Peters, who has been in every previous iteration of the anthology show, and Sarah Paulson, who supposedly will have a small as-of-yet-unannounced role, but is busy leading another upcoming Ryan Murphy series, Ratched.

Knowing Murphy, there’s no way the only gays in the entire series just got killed off at the very beginning of the trailer, so we’re looking forward to seeing who’s taking on the queer roles this time around, especially with Paulson and Peters stepping back.

But we won’t have to wait too much longer—the new season starts September 18 on FX!
