The timing of Family Equality Council’s Los Angeles Awards dinner on February 11, and the choice of star honoree Chad Griffin, could not have been more apropos, coinciding with a major victory on February 7 in the fight for marriage equality. Special guests and awards presenters included Modern Family stars Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, the latter who performed a humorous tune about the joys of every day parenting.

All this hype about Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday got me thinking that the LGBT community should have its own shopping day, Purple Sunday -- a day when we buy goods and services from LGBT-friendly companies.

Families headed by GLBT parents need to come out urged Family Equality Council Executive Director Jennifer Chrisler. The leader of the national organization that advocates for the rights of GLBT parents made the call to action during her State of the Movement address to attendees of the annual Families in the Desert conference of gay and lesbian parents, held in Indian Wells, Calif., September 31 – October 2.

Jane Lynch summarized the theme of the annual awards dinner of Family Equality Council when she stated that we are all in this fight together. At the event, held last Saturday at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, Lynch presented an award to the plaintiffs in the Perry v. Schwarzenegger trial challenging Proposition 8. The recipients echoed Lynch’s remarks that marriage equality rights are intimately tied to the rights of LGBT families.

Family Equality Council hosts annual Families in the Desert for GLBT parents and kids. This weekend my partner and I are headed to Palm Springs to part-tay, with sippy cups in hand. Our three-year-old son will be along too as we join an estimated 60 LGBT families October 8-10 for some wild LGBT family fun, including rubber ducky races and a wildlife show, all part of Families in the Desert, sponsored by the Family Equality Council.

Nurse Jackie has hit rock bottom, again, but she won’t go down.  The finale of Showtime’s second season of "Nurse Jackie" played out Monday night with pill-popping nurse Jackie Peyton (Edie Falco) confronted in an intervention by her bisexual BFF, Dr. Eleanor O’Hara (Eve Best), and Jackie’s devoted puppy-dog-eyed husband, Kevin (Dominic Fumusa).  Her response?  She locks herself in the bathroom looks in the mirror, laughs defiantly and scoffs, “Blow me!”
