Maybe one of these studies will "prove" you're gay.
There is this huge obsession in research to find the “gay gene” or another biological root to being gay. Frankly, I don’t understand the need. I don’t think science is asking the right question. “Who cares what the root is?” If you’re gay, you’re gay. And if you could scientifically “prove” being gay is not a choice, but biological, the homophobes will find another reason to hate us. The question is, why does it matter if it’s biological or not? And if they did find a biological root, would they then look into research to “fix” the biology? I like being queer. I don’t need to be fixed. And what if being gay actually is a choice? (Obviously, it’s not!) But why would that matter? What’s so wrong with being queer? We shouldn’t be conducting research to discover the root of homosexuality; we should be conducting research to discover the root of homophobia.
Anyway, here are some of the results from a range of studies that have attempted in someway to “prove” that being gay is caused (or at least identifiable) by certain biological or childhood factors. The research is all over the place, and the studies themselves are often scientifically suspect, but here they are. Take what you will from them.
