Charlize Theron Confirms She Is Raising Two Daughters, Not a Son
This is how you parent.
Charlize Theron is raising her kids right!
When she first adopted her seven-year-old, Jackson, she thought she was bringing home a boy. But in the last couple years, people have noticed both of her children wearing dresses, and she mentioned raising “two young girls" in an interview last year.
“Yes, I thought she was a boy, too,” Theron told the Daily Mail yesterday. “Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said: ‘I am not a boy!’”
“So there you go!” she continued. “I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive. They were born who they are and exactly where in the world both of them get to find themselves as they grow up, and who they want to be, is not for me to decide.”
Theron adopted Jackson (as far as we know, that’s still the name she’s going by) in 2012 and another daughter, August, in 2015.
“I was always aware that there are so many children in this world who don’t have families,” she had previously told Elle about her decision to adopt. She has raised them both as a single parent, with some help from her own mother.
And it seems like that approach has worked out well so far, especially when it comes to accepting her children for who they are.
“My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be,” Theron said, speaking of Jackson.
“And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that.”
