Ottawa Charge teammates Emma Greco and Michela Cava announced their engagement on social media on Wednesday, adding another entry to the growing list of sapphic professional women’s hockey players popping the question.
“Us forever,” Greco and Cava wrote in a shared Instagram post published on Wednesday afternoon. The accompanying carousel of images featured Cava kneeling on a Hawaiian beach and presenting Greco with a ring, as well as Greco wiping away happy tears after she said yes.
Commenters sent the couple many, many congratulations.
“STOP IT OMG I’M CRYING,” wrote Minnesota Frost player Taylor Fox.
“I’m crying! I’m so obsessed with you two! So happy for you AHHHHH,” wrote Gwyneth Philips, who was a goalie for Team USA at the 2026 Milan Olympics.
Cava and Greco have a long history of playing together, per The Hockey News. They were both recently traded to the Ottawa Charge, which then reached the Walter Cup finals. They first played on the same team in the 2020-2021 season as part of the Toronto Six, which won the Isobel Cup in 2023. Cava and Greco were part of the team that won the inaugural Walter Cup in 2024 as team members of PWHL Minnesota.
Several PWHL players announced their engagements this summer, per The Hockey News, including Toronto Sceptres defenders Allie Munroe and Kali Flanagan, as well as Emily Clark of the PWHL Hamilton and Jaime Bourbonnais of the New York Sirens.
Earlier this year, during the 2026 Olympic Games, American ice hockey captain Hilary Knight proposed to her fiancé speedskater Brittany Bowe after they met at the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.
There is also a long tradition of women’s hockey players marrying each other, including rivals from other teams — and even countries, such as American Olympian Julie Chu and Canadian Olympian Caroline Ouellette who first faced off against each other in 2002, but later reconnected and became a couple. Greco and Cava’s teammate Ronja Savolainen is also in an ice hockey couple with Toronto Sceptres player Anna Kjellbin.
This is, of course, not only a phenomenon in the WPHL. With over 25% of women who play in the WNBA identifying as gay, there are quite a few couples in the league, as well, including New York Liberty teammates Natasha Cloud and Isabelle Harrison.
