The Maestro trailer is here and prepare to get swept up in its lyrical beauty.
The film, which stars and was directed and co-written by Bradley Cooper, depicts the complicated life and loves of acclaimed American conductor Leonard Bernstein. Described by Netflix as “a towering and fearless love story chronicling the lifelong relationship between Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein,” it will also depict the relationships he had with men that were only revealed after his passing. “A love letter to life and art, Maestro at its core is an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love,” according to the film’s official log line.
Previously, Desimartini reported that “the film promises to explore the complexity of Bernstein’s life, including his sexual relationships with men, a fact that came to light after his death. Notably, Matt Bomer, known for his charismatic and versatile performances, will be playing one of Bernstein’s lovers in the film, a clarinet player with whom Bernstein had a brief relationship.”
In the trailer, we get hints of the complexity and true love at the center of the film, told over time with various styles matching the eras it depicts. We see a powerful bond between Leonard and Felicia, as well as his pull to affairs with men.
Reporting from the set by Access Hollywood previously shared a sneak peek at Cooper and Bomer sharing a passionate moment in a park.
The film will make its debut at this year’s Venice Film Festival followed by select theaters on November 22, before coming to Netflix on December 20.
