The DC shows are the latest casualties of the Warner Bros Discovery chaos.

Doom Patrol and Titans have become the latest victims of HBO Max’s cancelation spree.

The two DC series were both halfway through their respective fourth seasons when it was announced that the streaming service would be pulling the plug, bringing their runs to an end.

It’s a devastating blow to frustrated fans who have watched show after show be canceled — and in some instances, completely erased — from HBO Max in the wake of Warner Bros’ merger with Discovery, especially as WBD has been canceling and changing plans for its DC properties across both film and television at the same time.

LGBTQ+ inclusive shows have fared particularly poorly this year, adding insult to injury as we say farewell to two more shows that fit that description. Season two of Titans featured deaf transgender actor Chella Man as Jericho and casually included a married lesbian character (Mercy, played by Natalie Gumede), while the fourth season finally gave Tim Drake (Jay Lycurgo) a male love interest for fans to root for.

Doom Patrol, meanwhile, was queer through-and-through from the very start, with Larry Trainor’s (played by both Matt Bomer and Matthew Zuk) entire backstory revolving around his previous life as a closeted pilot, the inclusion of plot lines like helping out a sentient genderqueer street named Danny, and Diane Guerrero previously confirming her primary character, Jane, is a lesbian.

“To our wonderfully supportive partners at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and DC Studios, thank you for indulging us these past four seasons,” Doom Patrol showrunner Jeremy Carver said in a statement. “Also, what were you smoking? To our brilliant cast, indomitable crew, fearless writing staff and, most of all, to our beautiful fans: thank you all the more. You made this a once-in-a-lifetime ride.”

If you’ve been thinking about checking out either show, it’s probably a good idea to do so now, as there’s no way to know if HBO Max will even keep them on the streaming platform after their final seasons come to an end this year.
