Another beloved character from the Arrowverse is slated to make one last appearance in the only remaining show — Nia Nal.

It was announced Tuesday that the trans actress and activist Nicole Maines would be reprising her role as Nia aka Dreamer in the final season of The Flash, joining forces with Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton) to investigate a “bizarre and frightening mystery,” per showrunner Eric Wallace.

While Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow were abruptly canceled earlier this year, along with the majority of The CW’s existing genre and teen-centric slate, Supergirl was able to get a proper send off with its sixth season last year.

Still, it was well-loved, and is well-missed, and having Maines return for one more go as Nia before the long-running ‘verse says farewell should prove to be a meaningful part of the upcoming last hurrah.

It was previously announced that Javicia Leslie, who took on the titular role in Batwoman for the second and third season, would also be guest starring on The Flash this year, although it’s unclear whether the character we’ve come to know will make an appearance.

Fans have also begged Wallace to use some of The Flash’s shortened 13-episode run to tie up some of the loose ends left in season seven of Legends of Tomorrow.

“Going to save the Legends… as much as I’d love to do that, that’s not something that is very easy to do in a season when I may have to wrap up my own story,” he said back in May, before it was announced that The Flash itself would end with the upcoming ninth season. “I want to be honest, and not get anybody’s hopes up.”

Bringing Maines and Leslie in to supplement the stories already being told on The Flash is a much easier order than bringing closure to an entire additional show, and it’s exciting that Wallace has been able to at least make this much happen. As for any additional surprise guest stars in the final season, we’ll just have to wait and see.
