The second season of Shadow and Bone is drawing near — and now the first photos from the production have been released.
Season one of the diverse fantasy series, based on the books by Leigh Bardugo, followed orphan Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Lei) as she discovered she is a Grisha — or magic-user — and set out on a quest to harness her potential to save her kingdom.
The finale left many questions, as Alina and her childhood best friend, Mal (Archie Renaux) went on the run after faking her death so she can gain control over her powers and come back to fight again.
The official synopsis for season two teases the duo seeking out allies and traversing continents in search of two mythical creatures that will amplify Alina’s powers, even as “seemingly indestructible shadow monsters and fearsome new Grisha recruits” aid their enemy, General Kirigan (Ben Barnes).
“There’s a lot of potential for [the characters] this season,” co-showrunner Eric Heisserer said in a statement. “They have to face the consequences of their actions, and then they get to meet new people along the way. The Grishaverse also expands in this season, both in mythology and in characters. In doing so, we expand the world, we go to new locations, we visit Noyvi Zem and Shu Han, and those are all integral to the narrative.”
But enough with talking — Netflix also released a number of stills from season two to get fans hyped about everything to come, including a look at two faves from the books, Wylan (Jack Wolfe) and Jesper (Kit Young).
