Romantic comedies can be divisive. When done well, they’re fun and sweet, with beloved tropes. At their worst, they are overly cheesy, boring, or lean into harmful genre conventions. 
Things get even more complicated when you dive into gay rom-coms. Not only are there hardly any out there when compared to the never-ending stream of hetero ones Hollywood feeds us every year, but sometimes they’re just bad.

There is also a cinematic history of sapphic sanguines seducing women, disposing of men, and generally breaking out of their gendered social confines one bloody bite at a time.

Audiences love a romantic comedy, but for sapphic fans, your choices are slim, especially if you want one that doesn’t suck.
We love rom-coms for the happily-ever-after, the fun tropes (think the meet-cute and enemies-to-lovers), and the lovable characters. But when you queer those fan-favorite tropes, things get even better.

There really is no such thing as too many lesbian and sapphic movies. We love the romantic period dramas, the comedies, the lesbian outlaw films and erotic thrillers, and even the spooky sapphic fare. So of course, we can’t get enough of lesbian sci-fi movies.
While there are certainly more of these films than, say, lesbian Westerns, we could still use a few more (Hollywood, if you’re listening, get on it). Thankfully, there are already more than a handful of unapologetically sapphic sci-fi films you can stream right now.
