While promoting T2 Trainspotting on last night's episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Scottish actor Ewan McGregor gave audiences his thoughts on the gay character in the upcoming live-action remake of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
"There's lot of gay sex in this cartoon," McGregor (who voices Lumiére) said sarcastically when asked by Colbert about Josh Gad's LeFou being gay, and the way some people—namely homophobes—have been responding to the news. "I think if you live anywhere near Alabama, you should not go and see this film. What would Jesus think?"
Recently, an Alabama movie theater vowed to not show the highly-anticipated live-action Disney movie in response to LeFou being gay.
McGregor continued, defending the movie's queer inclusiveness:
"It’s just like, he’s a gay character. It’s 2017, for fuck’s sake!"
