Made in the ‘40s when he couldn’t have shown out and proud gay characters, Hitchcock used his mischievous genius to bake the homoeroticism into his film without ever having the two men kiss or acknowledge their attraction. Coded dialogue, body language, and even clever staging are used to create gay subtext that is impossible to ignore.
