But what about Sterek?

Tyler Hoechlin is heading back to Beacon Hills!

It was announced last September that popular MTV series Teen Wolf would be getting the movie sequel treatment thanks to Paramount+. Many beloved cast members were announced as joining the project, including series stars Tyler Posey, Holland Roden, JR Bourne, and Shelley Hennig. Crystal Reed and Colton Haynes, who were with the show at the beginning but left before it concluded, were also set to return.

But Hoechlin was among several main actors missing from the list — until now.

The news was announced last week, with the Superman & Lois star confirming his unexpected return to the world of werewolves on Saturday with a simple statement: “Derek Hale is back.”

While there’s still plenty we don’t know about the upcoming film, the plot is broadly described as follows: “A terrifying evil has emerged in the town of Beacon Hills. The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of Banshees, Werecoyotes, Hellhounds, Kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night. But only a Werewolf like Scott McCall, no longer a teenager yet still an Alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.”

Hoechlin, of course, played a werewolf who was sometimes a mentor to Posey’s Scott McCall and sometimes at odds with him and his friends. He was a Teen Wolf series regular for the first four seasons, and came back for a couple additional episodes at the end of the show.

Unfortunately for fans of the popular non-canon ship Sterek (Derek + Stiles), Dylan O’Brien, who played Stiles, has already confirmed that he won’t be returning for the film.

“Ultimately, I just decided it was left in a really good place for me and I still want to leave it there,” O'Brien said. “I wish them well and I’m going to watch it the first night it comes out. I hope it fucking kicks ass, but I’m not going to be in it.”

Series regular Arden Cho was also notably missing from the initially announced cast list. However, the studio has said that additional cast members joining up for the film will be announced soon.

In the meantime, you can check out some behind-the-scenes from the movie's ongoing production here.
