Super Bowl-winning New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has just appeared in a public service announcement video that was produced by the notoriously anti-LGBTQ group Focus on the Family.
In the PSA, Brees is seen promoting "Bring Your Bible To School Day," a day where children are encouraged to bring Christian Bibles to their schools so that they can "celebrate religious freedom and share God’s love with their friends."
"I want to encourage you to live out your faith," Drew says. "Share God’s love with friends."
As our friends at The Advocate point out, although Focus on the Family isn't explicity mentioned in the video, the video's description points viewers to the official website of both Focus on the Family and Bring Your Bible to School Day.
And as any people on Twitter have vocalized, Brees' decision to appear in this video produced by a known anti-LGBTQ group is very questionable, considering he has voiced support for LGBTQ+ youth in the past when he signed a petition to help change the MPAA rating of the documentary Bully to make it more accessible for queer youth.

“So @drewbrees - this picture encapsulates the spirit of New Orleanians. Your sponsorship of Focus on The Family definitely does not. You can choose the city that loves you OR the religious organization that sees you as a subhuman until you convert to their beliefs. Your call.”— Hell Or Bywater (@Hell Or Bywater) 1567396417
“And there goes all respect for @drewbrees. You know Focus on the Family is a bad group when chick-fil-no-gays distanced themselves from the anti-lgbtq bigots. #FTSaints now and forever.
https://t.co/fXFc0mrurI”— Andrew Lessley (@Andrew Lessley) 1567563012
Brees has yet to address the controversy or make a statement about his decision to lend his likeness to Focus on the Family.
