Never walk home alone again.
Walking home alone can feel like the most terrifying part of the day depending on who you are and where you're going. It seems simple enough to travel home, but for some people, getting from point A to point B is a long journey consisting of paranoid glances over the shoulder, crossing the street to avoid people, and gripping desperately at whatever it is you'd use to protect yourself if something ever went down.
Whether this (or the opposite) is true for you, Companion is an app that you should at least take a peek at. It isn't brand-spanking new, but it's something that's been catching more and more attention — for a good reason. Free on both Apple and Android, Companion is an app with a simple mission: "Never Walk Home Alone." Originally developed with college students in mind, the app allows one user (presumably at home) to watch a virtual map of their friend, family, or partner whenever they are en route to any given place. The app alerts users when their loved ones have arrived safely at their destination, and if in the even that an emergency does arise, the app also allows one to call the nearest law enforcement for help. You can also let the app know when you're starting to feel nervous, and you can even flag a certain geographic location as sketchy, letting other nearby Companion users know which areas to avoid.
Of course, an app as powerful as this is not only reserved for college students. With all of it's capabilities, Companion has the potential to make millions of people feel safer — and that's always a good thing.
