The Most Followed LGBT Women on Twitter for 2012

2012 was certainly quite a year for the LGBT community. We saw lots of memorable comings-out, such as the plethora of Olympians, including U.S. soccer player Megan Rapinoe. We declared victory for marriage equality in three states during the November election, and saw Wisconsin’s Tammy Baldwin elected as the first openly gay member of the U.S. Senate. We’ve come a long way since the time we feared arrest for simply having a cocktail together. The country loves us!

There's so much going on with election night it's tough to keep up but we had to give a huge shout out to Wisconsin's seven-term congresswoman Tammy Baldwin who beat challenger, former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson to become the nation's first openly gay Senator. Congratulations to Baldwin and to the great state of Wisconsin. Cheese hangovers for everyone!
