Watch: 'Emily Owens, MD' Series Premiere

It’s Grey’s Anatomy meets Mean Girls this season on the CW’s new drama Emily Owens, M.D. and we could not be more excited! Mamie Gummer plays the titular character, a first-year surgical intern at Denver Memorial Hospital, who discovers that hospital life is not so far from high school, especially when she’s forced to work not only with her ex crush Will Collins (Justin Hartley), but also her ex nemesis Cassandra (Aja Naomi King).

On the upside, Emily does befriend the Chief of Staff’s daughter Tyra Granger (Kelly McCreary) who, lucky for LGBT representation on television, also happens to be a lesbian. In the first episode Tyra convinces Emily to hep her find out if a cute nurse is gay. This is on top of Emily trying to manage her own personal and professional life, which happens to involve competing with Cassandra to impress Dr. Gina Bindari (Necar Sadegan of Elena Undone fame), a world-famous cardiothoracic surgeon.
