Madonna Chimes in on Lil Nas X's Gay Kiss: I 'Did It First'

Many fans aren't happy with the pop music icon's playful comment.

Pop music legend Madonna has chimed in on the Lil Nas X controversy.

The 21-year-old "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" singer performed his #1 hit song on the BET Awards on Sunday, complete with a Michael Jackson "Remember The Time" homage and a sultry kiss with a backup dancer.

The kiss has now gone viral, igniting a flurry of celebrations as well as homophobic discourse.

It's clear that X is facing unfair criticisms because he is a Black gay artist who isn't afraid to express himself, and the "Old Town Road" is clapping back accordingly.

In the midst of it all, Madonna shared her thoughts on the matter on Instagram. She "#diditfirst," which she wrote over a collage of X's kiss next to a photo from her 2003 VMA performance where she locked lips with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

Though many fans are annoyed at Madonna seemingly trying to minimize X's moment or attempting to capture some of the attention he's getting, X reaffirms that he's friendly with the icon and the interaction was playful rather than malicious. "Me and madonna are friends," he replied on Twitter, "it’s just a joke."

As the great Beyoncé once said, "You know you that b*tch when you cause all this conversation."
