7 of YouTube's Most Unforgettable Coming Out Videos
7 of YouTube's Most Unforgettable Coming Out Videos
There's no doubt that YouTube has become one of the world's biggest and most popular social platforms. Some people have made a whole career for themselves because of it, and one of the best things about the popular video site is that people can feel connected to others like them all over the world. That's something especially important for LGBT youth who need representation and visibility.
In honor of #NationalComingOutDay, let's take a look back at some of the most memorable coming out videos (in no particular order) that made us feel like coming out isn't a scary as we think!
Joey Graceffa
The popular vlogger came out in an emotional video back in 2015.
The Rhodes Bros.
Twin brothers Austin and Aaron Rhodes made viral headlines when they both came out to their dad at the same time in a video posted back in 2015. The video was so popular, it even caught the attention of queer talk show icon Ellen DeGeneres.
Ingrid Nilsen
The lifestyle and beauty guru came out during Pride Month in 2015. Hers was a major step towards more visibility for queer women in the YouTube space.
Shane Dawson
Known for his documentary-style videos where he chronicles the lives of some of YouTube's most popular influencers, content creator Shane Dawson came out as bisexual after posting a vlog addressing his sexuality back in 2015.
Tom Daley
Instead of letting the media speculate about his sexuality and relationships, the Olympic diver took control of his own narrative and came out on his YouTube channel back in 2013. Now, he's an out and proud husband and father!
Gigi Gorgeous
After more than a decade of being on YouTube, Gigi Gorgeous has become an inspiration for so many queer and trans viewers! Her 2013 coming out was a milestone for transgender visibility, and since then she has also come out as a lesbian!
Troye Sivan
Before he was a music superstar, Troye Sivan was a popular vlogger! Although he had already been out to his family for three years, Troye came out publicly back in 2013, and is now one of the LGBT community's most proud and visible icons!
