Fellas, is it gay to watch Love Island alone? Controversial streamer DDG thinks so

During a livestream on Sunday, YouTuber and artist DDG spoke about feeling unable to watch Love Island alone because he is single.

“I haven’t watched Love Island,” he said. “You know why? Cuz I don’t have anybody to watch it with.” He continued, “I think it’s gay to watch Love Island by yourself. If you’re a n**** and you’re watching Love Island solo, you might be bisexual."

A lot to unpack here, given that DDG is not exactly implying that watching Love Island itself is gay, provided you are shielded by the presence of another TV-obsessed mortal. However, the act of doing so alone appears to be directly linked, in DDG’s mind, to a person’s sexuality.

DDG — who has over 2 million followers on Twitch and over 150,000 followers on the streaming platform Kick — continued to say that watching Love Island is akin to watching “soft P-O-R-N,” which D-D-G did spell out. “You just sitting there watching motherfuckers kiss each other? It’s a little bisexual. You might as well go on Twitter.”

DDG is currently single following a public breakup with actor and singer Halle Bailey. The pair, who have a one-year-old child named Halo, broke up in October 2024, per TMZ.

Bailey had been granted a temporary restraining order against the content creator after alleging physical and vocal abuse, according to People. DDG then requested an emergency hearing and a domestic violence restraining order saying that Bailey posed an “imminent emotional and psychological risk to the minor child based on repeated, documented threats of self-harm,” per People. Five months later, the couple both dropped their restraining orders, per TMZ.

What exactly makes Love Island, viewed solo or with a loved one, an act that produces queer identity is not exactly legible to this writer. While the show has had its queer moments, it’s mostly the Stanford Prison Experiment via the Heterosexual Matrix.
