Practical Magic may have been a box office flop when it first came out, but the midnight margaritas and witchy fashion in the film quickly made it a cult classic — especially among gay fans.
Nearly 25 years after the original film premiered in 1998, stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reunited this week at CinemaCon, where they took to the stage to announce that “the witches are back!”
Bullock and Kidman have been inspiring fans for years with not only the iconic style of the beloved ‘90s film, but also the sisterhood at its heart. Now, Practical Magic 2 is on the horizon, ready to give the rabid fanbase the dose of nostalgia they’ve been craving.

Both Bullock and Kidman are set to return for the sequel to reprise their original roles as sister witches Sally and Gillian Owens.
Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest will also return to play the lovably eccentric Aunt Francis and Aunt Jet respectively, from the first film.
New members of the Owens family will be part of the plot of the sequel, with Joey King starring as Sally’s daughter. Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod are also joining the cast.

The original movie followed sisters Sally and Gillian, who were descended from a long line of witches, including the two oddball aunts who raised them after their parents’ deaths. As adults, they’re grappling with a 300-year-old family curse that dooms any man who falls in love with an Owens woman to an untimely death.
In Practical Magic 2, Sally’s daughters are all grown up and dealing with their own magical powers. Gillian, on the other hand, has settled down to live a quiet life with her black cat by her side. Things get interesting when a mysterious man (Lee Pace) shows up in their small New England town with a mission for the Owens sisters.
“We also have our past catching up with us and we have our destinies and we have our family,” Kidman said of the new plot line.
Bullock also hinted that the original curse is still alive and well all these years later. “Sally is single, and if you know the original film, you can probably guess why,” she said.

Practical Magic 2 will hit theaters on September 18, 2026, so stock up on tequila and margarita mix, don your witchiest outfit, and get ready to be spellbound!
