There is still no official release date and no new trailer, but we have learned something exciting about Red, White and Royal Wedding. The U.S. Motion Picture Association has classified the upcoming Amazon Prime Video sequel as rated "R."

That's not for "Royal," and not for "Raunchy," although an argument could be made, since the MPA specifies the movie earned its "R" “for sexual content/nudity and language."

As Attitude reported, the original queer rom-com that premiered in 2023 also received an "R" rating, although its classification was worded slightly differently: "some sexual content, partial nudity and language."

In the U.K., the original was given a 12 rating, for “language, sex, sex references,” according to Pink News. No word yet what the sequel’s UK rating will be.

Red, White and Royal Blue stars Taylor Zakhar Perez as Alex, the bisexual son of the president of the United States, and Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Henry of the United Kingdom. The high-profile enemies-to-lovers story became a surprise hit on social media, boosting it to Prime Video's #1 viewed movie at the time, as Teen Vogue reported.

LGBTQ+ fans raved about the lead characters' sexual chemistry and how they turned up the heat in its steamy scenes.

The author of the bestselling novel on which the first movie was based, nonbinary queer writer Casey McQuiston, revealed things will get even steamier in the sequel. At Obsessed Fest in June, they told fans, "I really hope I don't get in trouble for saying this, I would say it is a couple of degrees spicier than the first movie, and the intimacy is kind of dialed up in a way that is really beautiful."

In an Instagram post from the set in January, it was also revealed that despite the title, their characters are not the ones getting hitched. The title of the film refers to the wedding of Henry’s younger sister, Princess Beatrice.

Fans responding to the "R" rating on X shared their joy that the sequel will be as hot if not hotter than the original.

“Can’t wait to see He-Man and his boyfriend get it on,” said Will-Will referring to Galitzine's role in Masters of the Universe. A die-hard fan of Taylor Zakhar Perez said: "Taylor showing more of that asssssss!"

Production of the film wrapped in March. It stars returning cast members Thurman, Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Stephen Fry, Clifton Collins Jr., Thomas Flynn, Aneesh Sheth and Malcolm Atobrah. They'll be joined by new additions Henry Ashton, Lena Headey, Chloe Fineman and Alex Høgh Andersen.

Jamie Babbit (But I'm A Cheerleader) returns to direct the sequel, with Gemma Burgess, Matthew López and McQuiston credited as screenwriters. The movie is reportedly coming to Amazon Prime sometime before the end of 2026.
