Heartstopperstar Kit Connor is calling for more bisexual representation!

Connor appeared alongside costar Joe Locke on a panel for the Critic’s Choice Award and spoke on the lack of visibility for the LGBTQ+ community, specifically when it comes to bisexual people.

“I think that the bisexual community is a community that has really a shockingly low amount of representation, especially male bisexual characters,” said Connor. “It is shocking because a huge amount of the LGBTQIA+ community is made up of bisexual people. It’s a huge community but we really don’t get much representation.”

Connor played Nick Nelson on Heartstopper, a teen boy who falls in love with another boy and has a moving coming-out arc.

“It was a real pleasure to be able to portray that journey and those experiences,” he reflected. “Playing those kind of moments — it felt like the main arc of the character if that makes sense. It’s not just so much of working out whether or not you are a boy attracted to another boy, it’s also, you know, discovering whether or not everything that [Nick] sort of previously thought about his sexuality is suddenly invalid, or whether or not it’s something that he wants to still acknowledge."

“I think that’s something that isn’t seen very often.”

The clip is going viral on social media.

Fans are very protective of Connor, especially after he came out earlier this month. He shared his sexuality with the public after facing accusations of queerbaiting for months. "I'm bi," he wrote simply. "congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. I think some of you missed the point of the show."

Though the circumstances were unfortunate, it's nice to see Connor coming into his own.
