There are worse surprises!

A queer couple who made the spontaneous decision to get married in Central Park were in for an extra surprise when Mark Ruffalo accidentally wandered through their wedding.

Klaire Hodgson and Lynz Tanner had been trying to plan their wedding since getting engaged last June, and decided just a few weeks earlier that they would do so during an already-planned trip to New York City.

When the time came, they were setting up a livestream of the event for their family back home when a man wandered over towards them in the park. He said hello, but started to leave when the couple didn’t seem to recognize who he was.

“I said ‘I think I know that guy’ and Lynz said ‘Is that Mark Ruffalo?’” Hodgson told North Wales Live. “And she turns around just as he’s walking away and said ‘Oh my God, Mark Ruffalo!’ And then he turned round and was like ‘Hey!’ He came back over then. He was absolutely lovely. He was so nice.”

Ruffalo posed for some photos with the couple and congratulated them on their special day, with Hodgson noting he “seemed genuinely happy for us.”

“He obviously had somewhere to go and people to see but he stopped and took a few photos,” Tanner told BBC News.

It’s not every day a Marvel star accidentally moseys on through your wedding ceremony, but apparently one of the many upsides to marriage equality is that now even queer couples have that small chance of a surprise celebrity guest!
