Hint: This crush was a little bit magical.

After recently defending his queerness, now Omar Apollo is dishing on one of his childhood celebrity crushes — and yes, it was a guy.

The singer recently received TikTok’s Future Icon at the Variety Hitmakers Brunch, which was also attended by a number of big names in music, including Dua Lipa, Lizzo, Jack Harlow, and Selena Gomez.

When interviewed on the red carpet, Apollo talked about Gomez, and how he was “obsessed” with Wizards of Waverly Place, the Disney show that launched her career.

“I had a crush on someone in the cast,” he said, before admitting that he was talking about David Henrie, who played the older brother of Gomez’s character.

This comes less than a week after Apollo hilariously responded to accusations that he’s just “queerbaiting” with his refusal to label his sexuality by tweeting, “no i b sucking dick fr.”

He didn’t bring quite the same vibe to his speech at the Hitmakers Brunch, but instead used the opportunity to call out the colleges that rejected him when he was a teenager, leading to uncertainty about whether he would ever really make it as a musician.

“It’s funny to be recognized as a Future Icon because there was a point in time, in my young life, where I didn’t think I had a future,” he said.

But here he is, getting interviewed on a red carpet about crushing on Disney stars. If that isn’t success, then what is?
