Pedro Pascal had nothing but praise for his youngest sister, Lux, during a recent interview.
“She is and has always been one of the most powerful people and personalities I’ve ever known,” he said when the topic of his sister came up during a recent conversation with Esquire. “My protective side is lethal, but I need her more than she needs me.”
The Last of Us star has frequently shown his support for his sister over social media, after she publicly came out as trans in 2021. Trans-inclusive rainbow flags, messages of support for the community, and swift dismissals of bigots in the comments are all easy to track down on the actor’s Instagram.
It sounds like Pascal’s protectiveness over his younger siblings (he has two — Lux and a brother, Nicolás) can at least partly traced back to their mother dying when Pascal was living in Los Angeles and Lux was just seven years old.
“They were very young kids, so much younger than me and my older sister, so even if they hadn’t lost a parent, we would still feel parental toward them,” he said. “And I didn’t naively think I could fill a space like that, but I just always wanted to be like, ‘I’m here.’”
The Mandalorian star declined to speak on Lux’s behalf when the interviewer attempted to turn the conversation to how she feels about the current attacks on trans rights in the United States — indicative of that protective side, in a quiet way — but he did add that both of his siblings were flying into New York that week to see Lux perform at Juilliard.
“My siblings and my chosen family are where I invest all of my emotional energy,” Pascal admitted.
